The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey

Humans and their flying dragon companions live in fear of thread, a caustic, deadly material that falls sporadically from space. But when the thread doesn't fall for a long time, people become complacent, forgetting that it is the brave dragonriders who can save them from the periodic threat. But when the thread falls, human and dragon heroes must fight the scourge.

The Dragonriders of Pern is a widely popular, huge, and ongoing series of books, and is required reading for anyone even mildly interested in dragons or the fantasy genre in general. This set contains three of the first and most popular volumes in the series: Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

Eragon, a young farm boy, finds a marvelous blue stone in a mystical mountain place. Before he can trade it for food to get his family through the hard winter, it hatches a beautiful sapphire-blue dragon, a race thought to be extinct. Eragon bonds with the dragon, and when his family is killed by the marauding Ra'zac, he discovers that he is the last of the Dragon Riders...

The first installment of the Inheritance trilogy, this book is incredible. The plot, a boy from a poor village who gets launched into a world that he couldn't have imagined, is very exciting. Just when you think you know what's going on, a plot twist beats that assumption into submission.

Dragonheart

A brave but disillusioned knight, Sir Bowen (Quaid), joins forces with Draco, the last surviving dragon (voiced by Connery), to defeat the tyrant King Einon (Thewlis), with whom both Dragon and knight are linked by fate. Also tagging along for Bowen's quest is the monk Brother Gilbert of Glockenspur (Postlethwaite), and a young village girl Kara (Dina Meyer), whose father fell victim to Einon's tyranny.

This is most definitely the greatest dragon story ever put on a movie screen. Despite the fact that Draco is the first fully computer-generated main character in any major film, he is animated beautifully. The story itself leaves little to be desired. Any serious fan of dragon lore should have this movie in their collection!

Reign of Fire

During an underground construction in London, a hibernating dragon is discovered and springs to life, instantly frying all construction workers with its fiery breath. The only survivor is the 10-year-old Quinn Abercromby, whose mother was chief of the construction crew.

If you're looking for the mean nasty killer sorts of dragons, this is where you can find them! Think of this as Waterworld, with dragons instead of water, and not quite so long. It's an interesting twist on the classic dragonslayer epic.

Horizons is the next-generation online, epic adventure. You can meet tens of thousands of people and explore the seamless world of Istaria with beautiful vistas, incredible geology and diverse environments. You are able to take on many different traditional fantasy roles; Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Fiends and Dragons are just some of the choices. More...

Not only is the scenery in this game breathtaking, the players friendly and helpful, and the crafting system diverse and rewarding, but it is the only major internet game where you can play a dragon!

And you can download the game and try it for free!

Breath of Fire III

Platform: Playstation

The game follows the adventures of Ryu, who is the sole survivor of the Dragon Clan, as he struggles to discover why his clan was wiped out. The adventure takes him to many places, on journeys thought impossible, and in the end he will discover power in the ability to choose his own future.

Of all the video games out there, this one is by far my favorite, and not only because the main character happens to be a dragon in disguise. The game play is very fun (remeniscent of Final Fantasy), the graphics are alright for its day, but the storyline is absolutely spectacular!
